4 .Arranging the wedding- Selecting an auspicious day

Selecting an auspicious day

Before the wedding ceremony, the two families must arrange the perfect wedding day. The date they select is quite significant. Selecting an auspicious day to assure a good future for the couple is equally as important as avoiding dates that are believed to be unlucky.

5.Welcoming the bride-a challenge to the groom.

The traditional Chinese marriage is interesting.

The wedding procession of the bride’s family stops at the door of the groom’s home. The groom then faces a series of challenges which he must overcome in order to reach his bride.  Only after overcoming all the obstacles set in his path, can he finally see his bride.

6.Wedding ceremony- “Three bows” to heaven and earth, to parents, to each other.

The final ritual is of course the actual wedding ceremony where the bride and groom finally become a married couple. The ceremony consists of many elaborate parts:the wedding procession, welcoming the bride, the actual wedding ceremonies, and wedding banquets. The most important part in the traditional wedding ceremony is the “three bows” which are: firstly that they must bow to heaven and earth, secondly to bow to their parents, and lastly a bow to each other.  After the “three bows”, the new couple officially becomes husband and wife.
